The song, inspired by how much we need open communication, looks longingly towards the loved one that has grown reserved to the point they’ve become emotionally unavailable. And thus, “Distance” is a story of a person who wishes to reconnect with the loved one, but who is unable to find a path to get there.

“Distance” sees Gavan Waldby join forces with his sister Catherine Waldby, who co-wrote the song’s lyrics and whose tender voice can be heard in the backing vocals of the tk. Featuring a soulful electric guitar and a deeply melancholic atmosphere, Gavan’s voice hits with longing honesty as he sings about wanting to connect with the person but being met with an impenetrable wall. The sorrowful emotions are accentuated by a wailing guitar solo, depicting a deepening desperation as he gazes at the person seeming so cold and distant.
“Distance” stands as a reminder that the key to a healthy relationship, whether romantic or between family and friends, is communication. Sometimes, all a person really needs is someone to talk to, even if they feel like no one would understand them.
