What’s going on ladies and gentlemen, welcome back! It’s your boy MadZen and today we have a great, great release by these Aussie gents, and what a delight it is. With all the energy of Indie-Rock prowess, this track holds a special kind of magic within it, and it’s for sure something you don’t want to miss.
“We originally composed this song in 2020 and tried to record in 2021. It just didn’t work, we gave it like ten takes, and it just didn’t have magic we thought it would. A year and half later, with the whole song completely re-worked, we gave it another go and managed to capture the feeling we first wanted” – James Balthes
Poison Oak come from a streak of single releases including Found Myself, Around My Head, and Therapy which gained them international recognition. Now, the Townsville-based four-piece comes back with the fourth single of their upcoming debut album!
“Apocalypse” is a track with a young spirit, one that remounts us of our school days in a smooth sense of nostalgia. Vibrant, groovy, and carefully constructed, the song continues to carry Poison Oak’s signature sound of catchy guitar riffs dancing around in polyphonic rhythm, as well as chant-along choruses.
Some people say that “Apocalypse” shows similarities with bands like The Cure and The Gaslight Anthem. I would also add R.E.M to the table, for its high-reaching vocals really remind me of Michael Stipe. Also, the track comes with a super cool breakdown that intertwines melody with groove,
