British-based singer, songwriter, and producer S J Denney is at it again with the brand new single “Tread Carefully”, and this time he takes things to a whole new level. The song, completely self-written and self-produced like he always does, brings a new light to his indie folkness by adding new things and exploring different tempos and textures.

Slightly more upbeat and poppier than most of his usual sound, S J Denney takes inspiration from a wide variety of musicians and artists, creating his very own unique blend of them tall. About “Tread Carefully”, Denney himself namedrops some of his idols like Bruce Springsteen, Johnny Marr, and Supertramp as influences on the song and we can hear it all very clearly. Even with all of those inspirations, “Tread Carefully” still sounds very much like his own song from start to finish.
‘Like all my songs, “Tread Carefully” was born really quickly. I’d been thinking about an ongoing saga with a friend and reminded myself that I needed to tread carefully. As soon as the voice in my head said that, I knew it had to be a title’, Denney himself says about the song. The different style in production compliments his songwriting so well, managing to sound fresh and like a step forward in his excellent career, which we’ve already covered most of in the past. It’s very interesting to listen to “Tread Carefully” and feel how much Denney has evolved over the past years as much as a songwriter as well as a producer.
“Tread Carefully” sounds both complex in sounds as it does comforting and effortless – which is a sign of truly great craft and songwriting. The artist has a way of continuing to impress and wow the listener with his heartfelt music, adding new elements and different production while still remaining absolutely true to himself and his aesthetic. “Tread Carefully” is a remarkable achievement from this guy who keeps finding new ways to sound even better than the last release.
