They say 9 out of 10 people believe that we are living in a “mental health crisis.” So if we believe this, if we are conscious of the numbers, then why does it continue, and more importantly, what do we do? These are big questions. Eric Cohen, a hip-hop artist from Kansas City, would like to offer his perspective and share what has helped him through peril with his latest single, “On the Edge.”
Never one to hold back when expressing his sincere devotion to his beliefs (a minister in a juvenile detention facility) or putting his heart on his sleeve, Cohen is back on the LT1KF blog today with a track that we have fully come to expect will lyrically be frank, be a hard-knocking beat, and an opportunity to channel the inspiration to heal.
Eric Cohen has been releasing music for the last 3 years. He shouts out specific musical inspiration from artists such as Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Janis Joplin, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Mac Miller, and Toby Mac. Recorded in his basement and mixed and mastered by Uptown Productions, Cohen has expressed that he felt like he was stepping out of his shell a bit on this single regarding singing some vocals. He modestly purports that he wouldn’t consider himself a vocalist. In my opinion, the inspirational feeling he was feeling to step out of that shell to deliver the song’s message, transcends very well into the track’s vibe.
“This is a message that comes from the very depths of my heart. It talks about suicide and being on the edge of life. It is a cry out to my savior, the only one I know who can rescue me!”
Keep an eye out for Cohen, as he will be performing at Nehemiah Fest soon!
