Lorsay releases a moody trip-hop tune “Restart”

Trip hop is not dead! Lorsay is here to claim just that with the release of their new EP “Spring Fever”, revealed back in March this year. Among the EP’s tracklist of 5 songs lies “Restart” with the mood of emotionally dark triphop and body of deep-cut synth-rock. This tune starts off the EP and it’s also the very song this little blog article is about.

“Restart” dives into the alcohol-infused realm. Lowly growling synth melodies and percussion that walk a line between rock and trip-hop paint the imagery of despair and the attempts to drown that. The gloom is represented in detail by vocals by the band’s singer Orey, whose voice carries the heavy mood of desperation with astounding clarity of such kind that allows the listener to feel all of it. Aside from the darkness present in the lyrics and melodies, “Restart” is quite simply a perfect trip-hop tune that has all the classic goodness in it, but also brings new ideas to the table.

Lorsay hails from all over France with 4 founding members living in various parts of the country. The music project, born from the members’ common love for trip-hop, weaves electro-rock together with melancholic pop, throwing in influences from a vast variety of acts. At the base, Lorsay’s music is a combination of electronica and acoustic instruments, a mix that acts as a powerhouse to the project’s moody strong sound. “Spring Fever” is a love letter to the trip-hop genre and the intoxicatingly dark atmosphere this genre is known to have, and Lorsay has nailed it all with the release.
