Atlanta musician Craig Douglas Miller makes a resounding comeback with his debut album “Significance” under the project Blueburst, a riveting blend of 80s, 90s based rock and contemporary alternative artistry. Crafted in collaboration with renowned musical talents including Marty Willson-Piper and Michael Jerome, this 9-track gem encapsulates the raw authenticity of the 90s alternative and post-punk scenes while infusing a fresh, modern sensibility.

Opening with the pulsating energy of “Vanish”. The song begins with bright jangling crispy metallic rhythm guitars followed by a dense alt-rock rhythm section with powerful drums and rhythm guitars. I really enjoyed the rhythm guitar tones here followed by the synths. A power-packed beginning to the album. After a mid-section wah-wah drenched guitar solo followed by a clean section and an energetic out chorus.
“Executioner’s Song” follows suit, delivering a mid-tempo, bittersweet nostalgia that captures the essence of 90s alternative rock, prompting an involuntary sway of the head to its infectious melodies. Crunched jangling guitars are this mid-tempo alternative rock song with a pensive feel. As I hear the song, my head swings on the sides, there is a certain 90s nostalgic bittersweet quality to it.
“Senseless” showcases an alternative rock ballad with vocal harmonies, beautiful rhythm guitars, and excellent production. The song will transport you to a place where you close your eyes and savor the contemplative but rock-based feel of the song. The gem “Supernova” is a stunning rock song featuring choral harmonies and some great guitar parts, chord progression, and harmonic transitions. One of the best songs on the album.
“Kick My Tires” adds a layer of hard rock and grunge influences, boasting slick riffs and an electrifying guitar solo that ignites the senses. Meanwhile, “Bravado” strips down the arrangement, offering a poignant, drum-less cathartic crunchy guitars rock experience that will make you ponder the depths of life. As the album progresses, “Amplify Me” and “Come Alive” showcase Blueburst’s versatility, seamlessly blending elements of alt-rock, hard rock, and punk, all the while maintaining a cohesive, signature sound that speaks to the artist’s masterful musicality.

This is a brilliant alternative rock album with some truly amazing songwriters. Honest kudos to the amazing compositions, arrangements, and production by Blueburst. It is a brilliant album in the alternative rock tradition, if released in the 90s it would be ranked as among the best in the genre. Of course, today we can savor the music for its brilliance in core musicality beyond genres.
