h. eldritch’s new single “Innocent Sinner” is a dark folk-inspired love song

London-based artist and producer Harry Houseago come back with a new single from his h. eldritch project, a dark and intense folk ballad “Innocent Sinner”. Harry’s music defies all categorization, by blending together various genres and styles into something that truly sounds unique and extremely interesting.

With the intensity heard on the best indie rock from the 90s and a production that heavily flirts with indie folk as well as the orchestrations and choirs from alternative pop, “Innocent Sinner” is a wild ride. There is a sense of urgency and desperation in Harry’s voice that makes it sound incredibly cinematic and ready for stadium-sized crowds. Harry name drops Jeff Buckley as well as modern folk horror movies as inspirations, and “Innocent Sinner” could easily be heard on the climax from something like Midsommar and it would fit just right.

The production of “Innocent Sinner” is outstanding, as it perfectly builds up from light acoustic guitars to huge anthemic choruses and instrumentations in the blink of an eye. The atmosphere created by Harry on his latest single is one that keeps on changing, making it a very dynamic listen in which you’re not sure what is coming next leaving you at the edge of your seat the entire time.

“Innocent Sinner” at its core is a love song, but this isn’t in any way a typical approach to love. There is an emotional rawness in the lyrics, that range from awe and admiration to almost fear as it dives deeper and deeper into the beginnings of a new romantic relationship that seems destined to greatness with evocative folk and wicca imagery. “Innocent Sinner” is Harry’s most interesting song yet, as it constantly builds up the tension until the final explosive release and brings you catharsis as he belts out “I am innocent” at the outro.

Things are definitely going great for Harry, as he played sets at Glastonbury this year and continues to push it toward an even greater year in 2024, and I cannot wait to see what else he comes up with.
