Vogue Villains have achieved genuine connections with their fans over the years, and today the Vancouver-based band took a risk and presented themselves in their most vulnerable version ever. “Pretty Gorgeous” is a darkly toned sway of a song that explores the depths of our inner psyche, the devilish monologue in your mind that flirts with the balance between self-loving and self-loathing all while coming to terms with who you truly are… or might be.
Pretty Gorgeous reminded me of the more experimental side of QOTSA. Unique and unnerving guitar melodies with slow-paced but hard-hitting drums plus the keys & synths complement perfectly. A deep and gnarly bass, and raw/emotional vocals. All of these things are what most bands nowadays are afraid to include in their compositions, but Vogue Villains have proven their not most bands.
Wailing riffs, reverberating drums, and a chorus that packs a punch with violent dynamism define “Pretty Gorgeous”, a track that feels both bizarre and hypnotic. One could say that its oddness is the very thing that compels us as listeners!
Vogue Villains are not afraid to show their many influences under their sleeves, which is why they can get very intimate and very wild on the same track. Complex enough to make any musician go, “nice”, these guys are truly authentic and it is a band you do NOT wanna miss.
