Double Triangle is set to begin December with a strong bout of energy. Two brand new singles are fresh out of the oven, namely “Haberdashery” and its B-side single “Brenda.” Joined into a double package of singles, they have two distinct stories to tell. One of them is personal from the producer’s childhood, and the other soars into an astral journey with plenty of magic inside.

The astral journey into the synth-driven instrumental takes place under “Haberdashery”. While it’s a piano-based piece of music at its core, this tune brings in synthwave goodness along with smooth and flowing sound and magical glimmer sprinkled on top. Born from a longer chord sequence, the song waited for the perfect ending bit to become the “Haberdashery”, a song that concentrates on the magic of the journey in itself, and not the resolution or a destination. A handful of turns take place along the path, bringing forth new scenes to admire and sink into, and the enjoyment of being in motion is what this song is about.
Now, its b-side “Brenda” is quite different as it’s a collaboration between the artist when they were a kid and now as an adult. The core melody saw its light a long time ago when the artist was staying at Nan’s house. Composed and recorded on a cheap yet versatile Yamaha PSS-790 synthesizer, the main body of the song includes piano, guitar, and synth parts. Most endearingly, Nan overheard them working on the song and peeked in to say she liked the tune. That moment of encouragement settled what this early written melody was to become, and the 9-year-old producer went on to write a song Nan would enjoy.
This year, Double Triangle dug the old recording out and added some extra touches, giving the song a little update such as the melody in the second part of the song to follow the main body written so long ago. Dedicated to their Nan Brenda, unfortunately no longer around, Double Triangle releases the single on her birthday, December 1st. The slightly wobbly, enamoring main melody and the new follow-up part are also given an additional, ethereal shimmer by singer and composer Madil Hardis, whose beautiful vocal melody pulls all the strings of the heart.
The beautiful melancholic duo of singles show a whole lot of heart, both in the endless love for Brenda for her encouragement and dedication, and for building musical worlds to dive into. While distinctly different from one another, Double Triangle gives them both a common boat – two sibling songs with their own tale and evolution, but both built on the common foundation of passion and love.
