DCxPC Live Vol. 16: Skappository | Scum Shots

Skappository and Scum Shot artwork

I’m flying on a plane across country back to Portland as I write this. And it’s not the altitude that has me so high. Well, I guess literally it is. Figuratively though, I am high on a sound so familiar, yet is brand new. I am talking of course about Long Island’s Skappository, the A-side of the latest DCxPC live vinyl series.

Coincidentally, I’m actually flying out of Newark as I write this. The locally ingested Skappository is indeed taking full effect. They bring you a helluva rocking ska sound that will remind you of the edgier side of Reel Big Fish, and the upbeat crowd moving cadence of Op Ivy. But here’s the kicker. Keytar. I never fully understood the power of a properly rocked Keytar until I saw Solence with my son earlier this year. And Skappository totally stands and delivers on that. Throw in some classic Back to the Future sound drops between songs and on-stage banter for good measure. This had to be an amazingly fun show to be at, as the record captures that energy beautifully.

Lest we not forget side B of the record! Because not only was the crowd at Mr. Beery’s in Bethpage, New York administered Skappository, but they were also within trajectory of Scum Shots. The high energy, surfy, garage punk band from Staten Island of course. I totally love this band’s sound which is a pretty wide array of different kinds of punk rock. I’m particularly fond of the track “Babylon Traffic” and “D.I.T.N.O.L” (Die in the Name of Love) which really stirs up DK vibes for me. These powers combined are what Vol. 16 of DCxPC’s Live vinyl series is comprised of.

I encourage you to please support these bands on Bandcamp, as we roll into next year’s Spotify policy games, I think it’s important messaging to remind everyone that direct support to artists is the best way of showing support and appreciation.

That’s not to say that you can’t also buy this record directly from DCxPC’s website as well! I frequent the shop and it is a solid place to get your hands on some of the best punk rock vinyl to add to your collection and at an absurdly affordable price. These guys do a lot for their music scene and compile great compilations of bands they network with. A remarkable Indie Label.

Unfortunately, we are outside the window of pre-order for the corresponding VML series raffle that goes along with every DCxPC release, but all the more reason to check out their website and keep up with the latest! Notice how I didn’t rub it in at all that I got my pre-order in. I’m classy like that 😉
