Quebec-based composer Raynald Grenier has become known for creating beautiful delicate solo piano pieces made of seemingly magic. The artist continues weaving such tender natural magic in his new works, revealing a brand-new composition titled “Sonatina in C Sharp”. Brief and shimmery like all the delicate moments it may have been inspired by this piece brings a dash of imaginative spirit into the dark season, a soft promise of liveliness while everything around is icy cold.

Dressed in soft gentleness, “Sonatina in c Sharp” starts off like timid little things hesitantly showing face, yet full of desire to show something magical. Soon, they gather enough boldness, and the piece opens up into a short, but very much eventful little story of the stunning contrasted by the sad. Separated by moments of quiet, each little movement builds a new layer, and the story finishes off like a perfect movie with a soul-stirring core finding a new meaning.
This little piece is part of Grenier’s new ongoing project, the Piano Solos Collection. Last year, the composer released Opus 1, which was also covered on the blog with the piece “Doux Instants“. Opus 2 is soon to be released, and “Sonatina in C Sharp” is the first taste from this upcoming collection of piano compositions.
One of the main forces that’s driving Raynald Grenier to compose music, is touching the hearts and souls of listeners. That, in addition to sheer soul-elevating power and the imagery it can create in a listener’s head, has definitely been kept in mind in Grenier’s compositions. Favoring minimalism and carefully chosen moments of silence, Grenier is capable of making simply beautiful music for the soul.
