Darkwave duo Mesmershade have just unveiled their newest release, a single called Twin Fires. As the name subtly hints, the flaming release is powered by the story of two actively ignited persons and the equally fiery and deep relationship between them. But just like the stack of firewood ends at some point, so does the driving force in the connection. “Twin Fires” meets us at the tail end of this relationship that’s succumbing to the inevitable burnout. Intoxicating throughout, “Twin Fires” opens up as a smoky, captivating and enchanting song, a spellbinding witness to two flames burning hot. Taking influence from the all-consuming nature of such a burning relationship, the song sees imminent destruction about to come forth as it’s blanketed in the smoky layers of desire. The crackling of fire is also included through the use of trap hi-hats that sound like crackling embers, adding another layer of intimate intrigue to the enthralling atmosphere.
Mesmershade is a duo running across the Pacific Ocean, consisting of Hawaiian vocalist and lyricist Juniper Jow collaborating with Tokyo-based songwriter and producer M. Munigant. They found each other through intense online search for someone with matching ideas, and when initially the differences seemed huge, it all suddenly clicked through the creation of the first song. Now, the duo leads explorations into a variety of realms, from the fiery, dark and emotional like “Twin Fires” to haunting, foggy realms, as well as everything in between.
