This Friday, January 19th, sees the release of Madam Who?’s newest single “Peter Meter”, a song that took 20 years to become what it is today. Drawing inspiration from a conversation the artist had with her grandma Rita, “Peter Meter” dives into the art of keeping a lover and turning him into your man. That wisdom comes along with a whole lot of humor and body moving packaged into a storyteller pop rock tune.

Going 20 or so years back into a day spent at granny’s, the song was born out of an issue the young artist had with finding the right boy. Rita, a seasoned and experienced woman brought out quite a few guns from her stash of expertise in keeping a man, and those shocking yet truthful glimpses of wisdom have become the basis of “Peter Meter”, along with the artist’s taken-aback reactions.

This conversation now lives on in single with the spicy truth further energized by rocking beat and equally wild vocals. “Peter Meter” seamlessly switches between bold, borderline riotous rapping and melodious singing, accented by jabbing synths and flowing atmosphere going along with them. And as the song progresses, so does its dosage of affirmation, and the wild body-moving rowdiness ensues to complete the lesson on a high-energy and joyfully brash note.

So, if you also have trouble finding and keeping a man, Madam Who? has plenty of advice to offer from her granny. And if you’re on the search for fun and energizing pop rock, Madam Who? is again the answer. This artist is here to inspire everyone, but especially women at a certain age – follow your dreams and your heart no matter what life throws at you or your brain keeps telling!

“This past November I signed up for an online open mic with people generally based in the Philadelphia area. I had never done an online open mic before and had no idea what to expect. Most of the participants played with an acoustic guitar or had someone play one for them. You got two songs. I decided to play two original songs that come across pretty well acoustically: Strange & Beautiful and Reclaim Your Power. There were 14 participants, and you played your first song and waited for your turn to come back around.
After playing Strange & Beautiful and waiting through 13 senior citizens who sang folk songs with varying talent, it came back around to me. One man in that round played a song about his grandmother. I decided to play Peter Meter since it was mostly men (and they really love it for obvious reasons) and older people. I figure they’ve seen and heard it all, right? They would be amused. So I got out my kazoo rack which I used when I play acoustically, and started playing.
When I finished, I expected at least a light round of applause that had occurred after every other performance, but there was silence. Only people staring at me. I looked at my set up and I was on mute. “Was I on mute the whole time?” I asked, thinking I somehow accidentally turned myself off. The leader of the session, a man probably around 70, said in a very stern voice, “No. I muted you half way through. You violated our terms of no explicit material!” I was shocked and speechless. Explicit? Maybe for the 50’s, but not today!
I apologized and insisted I hadn’t heard the rules but pointed out that the song gets played on the radio without edits. They offered me a chance to play another song instead. However, I was so shaken, embarrassed, and frankly humiliated I declined and left the stream. The next day a participant from the open mic tracked me down to let me know there was a big discussion about what had happened after I left and that he stuck up for me… lol. I showed him the lyrics and pointed out it was only as explicit as the Newlywed Game that aired on afternoon TV in the 70’s and 80’s!”
