Ireland’s Cristina Movileanu is proving herself to be one of the most interesting voices in the indie folk atmosphere at this moment, as each new single from her is an improvement. Her latest, first new song of the year, is “Heaven’s Blend” and it seems to pick up the pace from last year’s “Full Moon” very nicely.
There is a certain fairy-like element to Cristina Movileanu’s sound and music, and it becomes so apparent on “Heaven’s Blend” that it seems to transport you to a different time – or realm, even. Cristina succeeds on this track coming up with a juxtaposition of sounds, structures and textures that sound like nothing else that’s happening right now.

The way she comes up with an almost eerie atmosphere, combining acoustic and unusual instrumentation and sounds is truly unique, especially in her ability to transform the world around her into something different. On her lyrics, Cristina writes stories that feel like they’re bathed in moonlight inside the woods in an enchanting ritual. There’re a few things on “Heaven’s Blend” that remind you of Florence Welch’s latest Dance Fever, but also that wouldn’t sound out of place if found in an ancient songbook of long-lost melodies.
With immense gratitude, I extend my heartfelt thanks to the Musiversal team, who brilliantly showcased the exceptional talents of Mike Fonte on mandolin and guitar, João Paulo Drumond on percussion, and Bruno Migliari on bass, complemented by the masterful arrangement crafted by Pedro Araújo. A heartfelt acknowledgement is also extended to Bruce Allen for his outstanding mixing and mastering, adding a touch of magic to the musical canvas.

On her lyrics, Cristina takes you on a journey through life; all the highs and lows we experience as humans, the way we seek connection with celestial beings and pray to nature for guidance. “Heaven’s Blend” sounds like she’s got those answers and is showing you the right path to follow on your own. The production flows beautifully like a calm river, filled with interesting sounds and painting a gorgeous and vivid landscape of harmonies and melodies that are comforting and soothing from start to finish.
More than ever, on “Heaven’s Blend” Cristina stands tall as the master of her own sonic vocabulary, every single line or chord change has so much wisdom in it that it feels like she’s teaching you a brand-new language each time – and I stand as her most eager student.
