The notion that there’s a different kind of energy in urban environment is most definitely true. However, most of it remains hidden for the busy minds and daylight hours and emerges in full glory when night falls. This everchanging energy is keenly followed by Luke Tangerine, who has with great care created the EP with the aim to retell the secret urban stories. The result is a short yet impactful guide that pays attention to the fleeting emotions rather than what is seen with the eye.
Just like the urban environments have lots of diversity in them, so does the EP as its 4 tracks flow through art pop, electronica, bits of synthwave and jazz. There’s an air of coolness embedded within the album, as if the sun had just set and the city is ready to reveal its nighttime creations. Open spaces, technical marvels and human-made materials intertwined with bits of nature become a breezy playground of inner-city life.

Throughout the record, the chilled feeling remains omnipresent along with reflective warmth of piano that joins the individual parts of this journey. Most distinct differences come from careful sound design that’s responsible for creating the minute detail of the surrounding landscape. “Metal Fatigue” thus has bold, yet lacy metal construction and one can feel the cold firmness, whereas the title track captures what’s hard to grasp and turns the echoes into a full-bodied music. Late night introspective state of mind in “Letter From a Non- Existet City” slows down considerably in comparison to the energized and sparkly “Subway Romance” that’s almost like a love letter to the city realm and provides a reflective ending stop of the journey.

Whether or not the listener sees a home in the city, the album encapsulates what’s certain – the unique atmosphere the urban surroundings radiate. Luke Tangerine has created a beautiful electronic synth-rock release to fully show what the city hides within, and it’s quite an enamoring listen!
