British electronic music producer NEVERSPEAK hails from Tokyo with a new single up his sleeve ready for release. That single is “Moneymaker” and it’s a potent and really quite dark electronic tune that combines the dark energy of pro-wrestling and ‘death matches’ together with the naturally flowing creativity with fellow friend and producer JedLi.

Does it really surprise when the track starts off with growling dark bassy synths and blast beats? Well, not really, but at the same time the sheer wrathful power that it evokes is definitely, a hundred percent surprising. “Moneymaker” is not for the faint of heart, as it’s got everything to do with dark smoky places where sweat and blood is pouring. In addition, it packs more power than some particularly wicked versions of energy drinks, so you may as well forget sleep.

This lethal-sounding tune was born out of a symbiotic creative relationship between NEVERSPEAK and his friend JedLi, who ended up living in a shared space for a while. The two make music in different genres, but if anything, that only fueled the creativity more. NEVERSPEAK kindly gave us a peek into how the track came to be, among other things producer friends do:
“I first met JedLi when he moved into the sharehouse out in Tokyo that I was living at. He’s a rapper and hip-hop producer and so even though our genres are different we ending up jamming together a lot in the rehearsal studio at the house. I even helped him to mix his hip hop EP “Journey to the Adventure” as well as a couple of singles. One of those singles was “Good Writtens” where the vocals on this song were sampled from. We’re working on a some more collaborations but as he’s back in the US now, it’s a little trickier which is why I ended up using the samples from that track.

JedLi always has very driven, thoughtful and positive tracks so I wanted to subvert that a bit when sampling it (as it’s not a remix at all). The track itself was inspired by a lot of the over the top characters and action I’d seen from going to a lot of live pro-wrestling shows in Japan last summer, something I’d never actually done until then. The original intent behind the song was to make it something that had the energy of a pro-wrestling chair shot to the head… as over the top as that sounds!”
Back to the practically everlasting energy present in “Moneymaker”, the single is home to some well-woven neo-Tokyo moods. In fact, it is inspired by the always awake home city of NEVERSPEAK, and the uninterrupted flow of stories it contains within. This particular song takes the form of an action movie theme, but the city also keeps informing the artist’s music in countless other ways.
“My tracks tend to have a darker electronic vibe to them but often I like to mix things up and bring an absurd energy where I can. It’s electro house at heart and I always want to bring some heavy, hard hitting bass, mixing elements of dubstep or psytrance in to the drops. I want people hearing it to feel powered up as a result.”
