Tuto Tribe multi-national collective led by Brazilian artist Tuto Marcondes, grouped in Southampton in the United Kingdom. “Magnetize” is their newest single, and the first one sung by Tuto in English – previous songs released by the band were written and sung in Portuguese, Tuto’s mother language. The band’s music is a fascinating mixture of indie pop with samba and pop rock that works beautifully around Tuto’s vocals, and everything seems to fall in the right place easily.

This style of samba rock is somewhat popular in Brazil, and Tuto’s heritage really shines through as the band namedrops artists like Jorge Ben as one of their influences. “Magnetize” is a beautiful love song, written by Tuto’s own personal experiences; although the band tells us that they can’t say much more about that. The band started playing it live shortly after, and it became a huge success with their audience so they decided to record and release it – a very smart decision, because “Magnetize” sounds very interesting.
By keeping the main focus of their music in Tuto’s brazilian music inspirations, the sounds crafted by the band feel fascinating. On “Magnetize” we hear some reggae influences as well, not entirely unlike something we’ve heard before from the early works of Jason Mraz and it sounds absolutely delightful. Rooted in personal experiences about love, life and travels, the music made by the band truly feels international as they take the samba percussions and stitch it effortlessly around the production.

“Magnetize” is a happy love song about feeling an attraction that is so strong that it feels like the magnetic fields around the Earth and the Moon – and Tuto tells this tale of newfound and blossoming love in very intimate scenes, that culminates in the morning after said encounter with a lovely ‘Good morning!’. This track feels somewhat different from the band’s earliest singles because it feels like they finally found a way to manage all of their influences and sounds at once. From the obvious samba rock to the reggae and certain jazz tones, the atmosphere created by them on “Magnetize” is incredibly rich in detail and filled with nuance.
“The five members of our band are from different parts of the world: Tuto, our extrovert Brazilian songwriter and front man is from Brazil, our drummer Herman is from Brazil, Blair our tall tenor sax is from Vancouver, Mike our bass is from Cyprus and Rich our alto sax is from the United Kingdom so we bring together a lot of different cultures but all of us have spent a significant part of our lives travelling around and living in different parts of the world.”
