Mexican pop punk artist Legna Hernández just released a brand new single titled “Tiana”, in which she was backed up by legendary indie emo producer Love Ghost and the results are stunning. Legna is a social media influencer, gathering millions of followers on TikTok and Instagram, and now she’s decided to pursue her long wished for musical career. She’s released a few singles since last year, always singing in her native spanish, and exploring a very interesting facet of pop punk music.

Legna namedrops Paramore, Avril Lavigne and Halsey as musical inspirations and you can definitely hear all of that spread throughout her own songs. Her past singles have been really good, and seemed to be paving the way towards more experimental stuff – and that is finally here. On “Tiana”, featuring and produced by american artist Love Ghost is a bold step forward into making Legna’s music the best that it can be, and they do succeed in this.

The production adopted by Legna Hernandez and Love Ghost for the track escalates from quirky hyperpop to full on pop punk in a matter of seconds. It’s catchy, it’s fun, it’s definitely the most interesting track Legna’s released this far and a definite proof of her talent for the music world. The two artists seem to compliment each other very nicely, as they swap back and forth the lyrics and languages between themselves, creating a song that is incredibly dynamic and amusing to listen to. You could definitely imagine someone like 100 gecs making this, which only comes to show how much contemporary and in-the-game the both artists are right now.

Written about realizing the mistakes made during the course of a relationship that’s ended, the two artists come up with a very interesting angle to tackle the loss of love and longing that takes its place. When you realize that you were at least partially to blame for what went down, things seem to weigh heavier than when you get to blame the other person in full. And that is rarely the case, as fault is most times shared.

The visuals chosen by Legna for the music video for the song are also not what you would expect. “Tiana” is a dog that has been rescued by a non-profit organization in hopes of providing her a better and loving home. Legna is seen playing and running around with Tiana as she seems to both reflect on the past relationship she’s singing about on the lyrics, as well as keeping up with the campaign to find a home for the dog. Legna is heartbroken about the ending of said relationship, and Tiana helps her through it. It’s a very sweet video, and the dog (needless to say) is the cutest.

“Tiana” sounds like a natural step for both Legna and Love Ghost, in creating a song that is fun but also incredibly moving – and naming it after the rescued dog is like the cherry on top of the nuanced and detailed cake. This track, both as a song and also as a concept, sounds like very few others out there right now and leaves us incredibly excited for what else is to come from Legna from here on in.
