DCxPC Live returns with a third installment of their Live/Dead vinyl series “Luxury Teeth” pre-order now!
Greetings and salutations! I hope all you readers are doing well with whatever “May Flowers” are being brought your way (as ol’ adage goes) as we march on to mid-year 2024. And what a year for music, the words that come to mind for me when thinking about it thus far are “powerful” and “vigorous.”
An “anti-status quo, status quo,” if you will, has been my vibe this year. And I love it. I’m sharing some vinyl with you that I bought today that checks all the boxes on those descriptors. You might recall LT1KF covering Volume 2 back in January (a record that I was also more-than-happy to have snagged at the time). The Live/Dead series is a variation in the label’s traditional “live” cataloging that features a band/artist performing Live on one side of the record, and studio versions of their songs on the B-side (the “dead” side).
The limited-edition Volume 3 is available now for pre-order on the label’s site. Featured this time around is the hardcore band “Luxury Teeth” out of Baltimore, Maryland, and if you were to give a listen to them, I think that you’d agree that “powerful” and “vigorous” might be in the neighborhood of what I’m talking about, but also perhaps an understatement.
Their sound has the “bite” of tried-and-true East Coast Hardcore (get it? Luxury Teeth – “bite?” I’m telling myself that you’re mused anecdotally). DCxPC released a single off of the record to streaming services yesterday 05-07-2024 to tease the album. Just a sample, ya know, of an album that I’m certain you’d want to sink your teeth into (okay okay, I’m now imagining that telling me to stop with the puns).

First let me start off with how great of a deal the vinyl is. This is a full length 12-inch record with 19 tracks of music, for the “are you kidding me” price of only $25. This band has played with legendary bands such as Subhumans, MDC, and GBH in their short, but already storied history. As a sweetner to the deal, as DCxPC always does, they are raffling all the pre-orders placed between now and May 14th for a chance to win a classic record: “GBH Live in Japan.”
Luxury Teeth began as what has been described as a “cathartic outlet” during the pandemic. By the time lockdown restrictions had lifted, the project was slated to hit the ground running and they did just as such, playing numerous notable shows and recording several songs. Sidenote observation: I find it fascinating how many artists, bands, projects I have come across be borne of the pandemic. It’s a strange feeling to me to realize that was 4 years ago.
In fact, it’s a history shared with the label DCxPC, who were also in current state began during the pandemic when live shows were going to livestreams. Truly amazing, as I feel like I’ve been on board with these amazing records for so much longer. There’s something to be said about how this label, the music they distribute, and the bands they feature resonate with me so deeply.

On to the record! Who doesn’t love stage banter? I know I do. I tended to favor the “live” side of this vinyl due to the on stage banter. It adds an extra layer of entertainment for me. Don’t get me wrong, there’s a case to be made for the “dead” side being the holistic output of artistic expression, no doubt.
Good is good, rocking is rocking. It’s just the “live” side also does a great job of capturing the energy of the band and personality. I particularly enjoyed the vocalist Dave, making his satirical case for joining a cult after “Vertigo Mind” and before “Might Join a Cult” based on the premise that being at least lied to directly by your God is “kinda tight.”
Another highlight for me was a shift of gears in the set by the band declaring, “oh man, it’s time for a cover song huh?” The audience shouts various, random things at the band, and I’m pretty convinced I heard the ol’ “Play Freebird!!” out in the distance, before Luxery Teeth lay into the song “Josie,” but no we’re not talking Blink 182, we’re talking an adaptation of “Your Love” by The Outfield. An interesting pick for a cover, and glorious. That track had me grinning ear to ear the whole time. I queued up the cheesy 1980s music video and sped it up a bit to try and line it up with the band’s performance for the ultimate enjoyment.
Another thing I love about Hardcore Punk in general, but specifically thinking about the live side, is the direct connecton with the audience. As the singer gasps for beath between songs, you are effectively in the venue with them (figuratively, of course); this is not “box store,” corporately choreographed theater. This is a band on the floor with you, sweating right in your face, face to face, sending the energy the crowd feeds them right back their way. And don’t take that as a slight to different styles of music.
Some days you might want that slick presentation, but isn’t there a saturation of that already? That’s the overall point I’m trying to make with this record, the band, and the ethos of DCxPC for that matter. That variable difference is what makes this band, this record, and this record label distinctly remarkable.
I realize that I might have belabored a bit on the “live” side, but I will close with the fact that the “dead” side is a real treat as well, inasmuch as that you are getting nine exclusive, unreleased songs not available anywhere else.
