“People Pleaser” stands tall as Ainsley’s 20th single so far – it’s symbolic, as the artist herself just turned 20 years old. So yeah, she’s been doing this for a while and since a very young age, it’s more than natural to realise how much she’s grown as an artist since those early days. On her brand-new song, she also debuted a new style of music that fits her incredibly well.
When you listen to earlier material like “Cherry On Top” or “Someone’s Someone“, we got to see Ainsley hitting that 90s alt rock pop punk hard and it was magnificent. But on “People Pleaser”, she sounds more tamed and more focused on melody, backed by a production that feels in sync to the contemporary landscape of indie rock – and she fits into it perfectly. She remains smart as ever and knows her references back-to-back like the palm of her hand. On “People Pleaser”, she’s glimpsing at new and exciting possibilities, and it feels fresh and intriguing to hear.
Exploring vulnerability and putting yourself first, maybe for the very first time, she created a song that feels as universal as breathing. Hanging around with her emotions on her sleeve, “People Pleaser” hits with catharsis and relatability while still sounding catchy, light and fun in a way that makes you feel good after listening – and this is no small feat.
“‘People Pleaser’ is an empowerment anthem,” says Ainsley, “It’s about reclaiming your self-worth and setting boundaries.
