Rita De Los Angeles reveals the hidden bruises of domestic violence, releases “Shade of Blue”

RITA DE LOS ANGELES Released ON October 18TH; the new song “Shade of Blue” is a story of a woman finally breaking free from a relationship with an abusive spouse. The different shades of blue that colored her skin and soul for the last 13 years are now in the past as she runs to freedom, and Rita De Los Angeles speaks out on the OFTEN-BRUTAL domestic violence behind closed doors.

The story is presented with a warm americana-flavored country sound reminiscent of a quivering heart full of fear, yearning for escape. Rita’s verses are of honesty as she follows the poor woman finally doing a real attempt at breaking free from the seemingly eternal state of fearful submission. What ended up pushing her to take action, is hinted in the chorus – “a woman wakes from the dead”, which can be emotional death, but also almost dying through the brutal hands of the partner.

As “Shade of Blue” progresses, first rays of hope and easily frightened happiness about finally being free start to carry in. She’s escaping from a well-hidden and unfortunately widespread terror, domestic abuse, and Rita De Los Angeles has a personal story on the matter, which inspired the creation of this song. Her sister used to be in a physically abusive relationship, which got to the point where she almost got killed through the aggressive man’s hands.

This hidden terror affects 1 in 3 women and 1 in 7 men, and that’s just physical abuse of those, who have had the courage to talk about it. When it comes to mental abuse and the unreported physical cases, those numbers are definitely much sadder.

Rita De Los Angeles wishes to bring awareness to the severity of domestic abuse and the lasting effect it has on not only the victim, but also the witnesses. “Shade of Blue” also aims to bring a ray of hopeful courage to those stuck in fear and manipulated to blame themselves for being hurt.
