Back in July, australian singer and songwriter Sunset Salore released her debut single “Call It”. A track of dynamic and whimsical beauty, it paved the way the artist would explore later on her impressive EP Love Kills the Monsters. Now the alternative pop songstress strikes back with a stunning music video for “Call It” and breathes new life into an already amazing track.

“This song is about addressing all the little micro-moments in a relationship that don’t stack up anymore, and on that moment, deciding to call time on everything”, the artist herself says about the inspirations behind the track. “Essentially, it’s saying, I’ve had enough with the status quo- this isn’t good enough, I deserve better”, she concludes. Those feelings are perfectly captured in the music video, that stars beautiful Melbourne-based artist and body piercer Madison Sewell.

Madison embodies the character with lively expression, creating a convincing and utterly genuine performance. It’s an enchanting video, portraying the moments of realization right before the decision sung by Sunset with stunning precision and charming wit. It’s an illustration of loneliness and life-altering understanding in the form of subtle frustrations that range from smashing glasses and removal of bedsheets with both humor and anger. Sunset herself appears singing the song alongside Madison, over morning coffees and glasses of wine.

It all culminates in the lyrics ‘You carelessly rip my world apart, so you should be watching me light the match‘. On the video the fire is not just a figure of speech and as we watch Madison set the other person’s belongings ablaze, it comes as a cathartic cleanse. There is honest satisfaction and closure in this action, and by the end Madison has the type of smile on her face that can’t come from anything other than revenge.

“Call It is a song that is about empowering yourself to make better choices when you reach the point that the relationship is no longer making sense”. Sunset Salore

The video was beautifully shot on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Australia, and directed by Adi Ringma and Rebecca Marshall of AR Productions. It serves as an empowering visual that shows a woman taking back her narrative, choosing for herself and letting go of things that aren’t working anymore. Sunset Salore comments on how the track, one of the highlights on her EP, is a portrayal of reclaiming your own story and never apologizing for it. “I wanted this track to convey the assertiveness that comes with that acknowledgement, and to feel powerful in that moment”, she says. And they absolutely succeeded in it.
