“Blind Heart” is the debut single from hard rock artist Whereafter, and it comes as a taste off of their first album Blessed & Depressed. Whereafter’s ethos takes form as music that speaks to both life’s struggles as well as triumphs, relying on deeply personal lyricism backed by powerful instrumentation that incorporates a lot of different elements.

On debut, single “Blind Heart”, songwriter and producer Gogi Randhawa AKA Whereafter creates an all-encompassing universe of tension and release that circles around the idea of not living your best life. “It deals with the complexities of having a blessed and beautiful life, but your mind just won’t let you experience it freely either due to self-doubt, anxiety, depression or past trauma”, Randhawa says about the track before making sure to point out that the music itself isn’t meant to be depressing. “The whole album is meant to be a love note to anyone that deals with the same feelings to let them know that they aren’t weird or alone in their struggles”, is the conclusion.

Those themes are at the very core of Whereafter’s music, making “Blind Heart” an incredible introduction for the band. Propelled by intricate guitars and compelling percussion, soars with cathartic emotions and influences that go from classic emo to nu-metal with the blink of an eye. It’s a powerful track that unveils itself as a masterfully produced hard rock gem, one that is melody-driven and anthemic in equal measure. Exploring vulnerability and resilience, Whereafter’s music comes from a place of healing that feels genuine and is surrounded by hopefulness even in the darkest nights.

The single is backed by the spoken-word introduction “Let’s Talk”, that opens the album and transitions into “Blind Heart” with ease. Like a more positive spin on Radiohead’s “Fitter Happier”, that intro is essential for the understand of Whereafter’s musical aspirations as a way of creating a communal sense of support. “It’s not so much about fixing the problem, but rather, conveying to the listener that they aren’t alone in their experience”, Randhawa says, highlighting the band’s motifs and themes beautifully.
Whereafter is a band with a noble purpose of sharing such experiences and establishing true connection between themselves and the listeners. The lead single “Blind Heart” does that with unwavering grace, styled as an emotional journey through stages of despair but ultimately landing on gratitude and hope.
