British singer and songwriter Steve Young has been making music for the past decade, and already has two full studio albums, one live project and a couple of EPs under his belt. His latest track, a lovely acoustic rendition of unreleased song “Dog & Bone”, was already attracting attention and becoming one of his most requested songs on live shows even without any sort of promotion or streamings – and now Steve is giving the fans a very special treat.

The UK-based musician gathered with his violinist Jade Cuthbert and American country singer Savannah Gardner and the three came up with an easy and fun performance of the song. “Dog & Bone” is a beautiful track, featuring gorgeous country and American melodies and some interesting 50s doo-wop elements even on this stripped-down version. It sure is about to get even more traction now!

The track started out as a songwriting lesson in a school project, and Steve even says that an eleven-year-old student named Connor contributed to some of its lyrics. It’s a lovely americana-infused ballad featuring uplifting melodies and great atmosphere, drenched in simple lyricism and a playful and innocent attitude. The song on this acoustic format is a significant departure from the country rock Steve’s shown us on past singles “Looks Like You” and “Feelin’ Fine” over the last few months, structured like a classic folk song.

Both Savannah and Jade contribute with vocals in a rich and complex call-and-response that transcends into impeccable backing harmonies, making the song all the more memorable. The minimalistic approach the three musicians took on this live rendition was an incredibly smart one, as the track really shines on this setting. There is something truly magical about “Dog & Bone”, banking on a deep sense of nostalgia and relying on comforting imagery that makes you feel good when listening to it.

Recorded at The Practice Roomz studio in Stevenage just a few hours before Steve took the stage at the Todd in the Hole Festival, “Dog & Bone” is an instant hit and a very exciting track that highlights all artists’ knack for storytelling. Steve is setting the scene for the release of his new album Famous for a Day next year and has stated that a full band version of “Dog & Bone” will be on it. But for now, we’ve got this amazing performance, also beautifully captured in video, to bask in until that time comes!
