Jamaican rapper, singer and poet Nadirah X returns with long-awaited sophomore album Seasons, after a string of singles and collaborations dating as far back as 2017 including “Let Love Surround You” and “I Got You“. Nadriah’s unique soundscape encircles elements from several different genres into her music, ranging from raggae, rock and pop to rap and hip-hop, creating dynamic atmospheres that shine with charm and personality while tackling important and self-reflective issues on her lyrics.

Nadirah’s ever-expanding career started in the early 2000s in Jamaica and gained international recognition shortly after, contributing to high-profile projects while working with artists like Joss Stone, Mick Jagger and Annie Lennox. This comes to show the versatility of her music and style, managing to adapt her vision like a chameleon and exhibiting her talents as an artist to the world. Now in 2025, after a brief hiatus from the scene, Nadirah X makes a stunning comeback with Seasons and gives us twelve new tracks that show how times only made her even more impressive.
The sounds explored by the artist reflect her evolution, maturity and growth as a person as well as a musician. Her rapping and singing are on their best form yet, like heard on “Turn the Streetlights On”, crafting atmospheres of alternative music and cinematic verses that flow seamlessly with energy, fire and wit. As she navigates through a natural expansion of sound and vision, Nadirah sounds confident and thoroughly ready to take back her place in the mainstream alternative hip-hop realm once and for all.
“Her words and intent are not only pure and spot on social political commentary, but she has the most beautiful and graceful presence”, English musician Dave Stewart, member of legendary synthpop duo Eurythmics, commented about her work. On Seasons she takes all of this and runs with it further and more urgently than ever before. Highlight “It’s Possible” shows Nadirah rapping about her inner turmoils on love and relationships with herself and others, through an introspective perspective and the most interesting production on the record. The track feels like a cross between Astronautalis’s This Is Our Science and Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d city while still beaming with her own sense of originality and top-notch vocal performance.

Featuring collaborations with artists like Trippa Irie, Diziah and Mahaut, Nadirah’s tracks blend a myriad of different influences with maximalist instrumentation that encompass strings, synths and horns with both precision and grace. Her delivery shows a mature artist who is sure of her artistry and flow, blending genres and crossing lines of experimental and alternative pop production tied together with old-school hip-hop cadences easily.
One of the most noteworthy collaborations is “Nobody’s Coming (Recharged)”, featuring Olaf Blackwood, a track originally released in 2021 that has finally found its home on Seasons. Accompanied by a music video directed by Los Angeles-based artist Rillah, the track deals with themes of religion, classism and violence highlighting how irrelevant such emotions are to our lives and well-being. The performance-focused video helps to bring those ideas forward and bring the space for the lyrics to really strike as rocks thrown at a riot, but with sensibility, compassion and letting her poetry shine.
Seasons is a huge step forward for the Jamaican artist, cementing her comeback as one of the most inventive and creative minds on alternative hip-hop. We’re living in celebratory times when it comes to female rappers, having artists like Doechii and SZA at their respective heights, making it the perfect timing for Nadirah to have her full-blown comeback. Seasons is a rich and complex experience both sonically as well as lyrically, crafting a true journey through beats and soundscapes that feel intricate and always put her poetry and vision on the centrefold.
