“How Dare She”, a brash question asked by white christian men and women, is the title of Amy-Lin Slezak’s debut single. Unlike the question-askers, who think women should remain in the shadows and serve men, this song will shatter such restraints and inspire women to be free to create, EXIST, and celebrate what they have achieved. No apologies.
And so, the song starts off with visualizing a brave woman unwilling to stay in the shadows and blend in with the crowds. Written in the style of country, a refreshing breeze is present in guitar melodies and chilled production. This breeze knows no constraints, and will flow no matter how much it is fought. All they’ve left with is the shaming, the catch-it-all “How Dare She!”
Amy-Lin is aware of the anger-filled comments and only gains wind to her sails from it. Her empowering voice soars higher throughout the song. Celebration is punctuated with long notes and drum crashes, all while the carefree tone stands higher than any of the negative comments can reach it. This woman has been given one life to experience and she will not waste it away by being oppressed into the shadows.
This anthemic single is the first to come from Amy-Lin Slezak, an independent singer-songwriter. As she witnesses the comments on anything created by women becoming more hostile by day (in 2025, humanity really isn’t progressing, is it?), the song came to be as a desire to encourage women to keep doing what they love, despite what is said about them. The artist is now living her dream of making music, after her wish of becoming a performer was put on hold to raise a family.
