Michigan-based producer DJ Super Will has recently released a new EP, “Love & Distortion: Reloaded”. This record is a fresh take on the man’s original EP and as a proper reload, it carries more weight in its tracklist with new additions, and more energy in the beats. In fact, the title track has also gained a whole new polish and is ready to bring everyone to the dancefloor.
The title “Love & Distortion” is not a name picked on a whim. Created during a difficult time in DJ Super Will’s life, the release carries emotional depth within its dancy beats and groovy techno synths, serving as a milestone of survival as much as a release of long-held grinding feelings. Love is a central theme in the EP, and when a divorce happens, it can leave one’s life in ruin.
That storm of love and its punishing absence is reflected by powerful female vocals in the title track, which arrive with the sense of urgency and gather layers to build up intensity. “Love is a shotgun loaded with dreams” is one of many statements highly relatable to anyone who has felt the destruction of splitups, and the song stands as a statement of rebuilding oneself after losing it all and being left in the mud.
While the song’s message lifts up spirits, the instrumental side builds up hype on the dance floor with percussion evolving to spin up energy for the big drop. Solid 4 on the floor beat combined with ecstatic “love and distortion!” shouts make for a tune you can dance yourself silly to.
