Berlin-based duo Cosmic Anxiety have just stepped out into the open with their debut single, “The Crack In My Heart”. This bleeding title is not a hint of a relationship gone wrong, but instead, this sorrowful synth pop tune follows the life of a person going through their daily tasks in crumbling society, slowly fading into oblivion.

In today’s society, humans have become as replaceable as tools they work with. As one digs through job offers that always pick someone else, and sees select few placed on digital pedestals, it’s easy to get into despair. One fights for survival, a place in modern existence, yet remains completely invisible for everyone else. The heart is cracked and starts bleeding out.
The dark red sorrow seeps into slow synth melodies that form the hazy solemn atmosphere in “The Crack In My Heart”. As thick as the haze of resulting depression, the song surrounds like a blanket, the vocals express the pain through metaphors, growing ever so silently as days go on without anything resolute happening.
Though the single was born from a private place, its story spreads wide and far with how relatable it is. Considering how mad everything has become, even those people that are seen as happy and stable now feel the fear and instability, invisible in the grand scheme. At the same time, the song’s lyrics can be compared to the invisible effects of illnesses that disable a person, leaving them to struggle with pain that no-one else can see or understand.
Cosmic Anxiety is a duo formed by Eli and Gasher, two artists that once played in a now dissolved band, Clash Clash Bang Bang. The queer, genre-questioning duo is inspired by music from the late 80s to Y2K, and have found a therapeutic place of healing in music. Now, with the first single out showing the sheer potential this duo has in their hands, they are on to great things
