New York-based artist Kary Sit has kept a secret for a very long time, and Its finally time to share it with the world. Referred by the singer herself as ‘The Longest Collaboration’, her new track “See Me Cry” arrives with a particular and deeply intriguing twist: it’s a collaboration with herself, from a demo originally written twenty years ago. Kary had international success with her Welcome to My Fantasy EP back in 2014, particularly in Japan. Since THEN, the artist had a period of “quiet evolution” and became involved in other projects, getting back into the studio to reclaim her voice late last year.

The first result of this musical comeback unveils itself in the form of “See Me Cry”, an introspective and soul-inspired ballad that significantly softens her older pop sound. There is an irresistible R&B groove to the song, and her sugary vocals shine even brighter here, highlighting her dynamic style and oscillating between hip-hop-influenced whispers and big pop melodies with elegance and remarkable sophistication. The track’s origins date back to the time Kary was a ghostwriter for a major Top 40 Hollywood studio, writing teen-idol pop sounds, and it remained shelved for two decades because of it.
“See Me Cry” is a song that couldn’t have been released before, as the artist states. “It didn’t fit the commercial boxes of the time and was too personal to give away to other artists”, she says reflecting on the track in the present. “Today, influenced by the soulful, melodic precision of artists like Johnny Stimson, I am finally stripping back those personas. This release is the first time I am merging my professional Top 40 polish with the R&B heart I’ve had to keep hidden for twenty years”, she concludes.

It’s fairly easy to understand why Kary didn’t want someone else singing “See Me Cry”, as it’s a self-reflective track that feels even more powerful coming as a tribute to her younger self. Kary proves that she is capable of merging glossy radio-friendly pop hits with tasteful originality, resulting in a song that glistens from start to finish and floats around free from the weight of patience.
More important than a mere ‘comeback to the industry’, “See Me Cry” is a tribute to Kary herself and evokes conflicting emotions regarding decisions made in the past but always with the utmost respect and appreciation for herself and what she did back then. But now “See Me Cry” carries an entirely different meaning: it finds the young songwriter ready and willing to let her true artistry and talent shine for everyone to see.
