Following the release of a gorgeous record of acoustic re-imaginatins on PSYCHEDELIKA (STRIPPED), English DJ and producer The New Citizen Kane goes the opposite route for his latest remix project. This time targeting last year’s sun-drenched and indie pop inspired TEMPLE.BEACH.DISCO.DADDY, the artist is about to release another work of new renditions titled LIQUID.LATEX.DISCO.DADDY that goes heavy on house music and classic EDM.

His latest record finds Kane exploring the dim-lit corners of the underground club scene, reworking early tracks, adding extra spice to them, and giving us some never-heard-before compositions. It’s an album that thrives on the seduction of the 90s electronics, creating and releasing tension at will and finding a new voice amongst smoke machines and unwavering pulsation of freedom. LIQUID.LATEX.DISCO.DADDY is about rebirth and pushing his own limits, as well as solidifying his own status as a household name in electronic music – as heard on opener “What’s His Name?”, featuring contributions from Red Man Runs.
The record’s strength can be felt right from the beginning, on the darker and stunning new version of “Push the Fear Out” – that replaces bouncy guitars for intense house synths. Kane is a master in reworking his own material, on changing completely a track’s tone and message through production decisions. This is more apparent than ever on LIQUID.LATEX.DISCO.DADDY. His creativity and ability to make you feel whatever he wants is uncanny, also impressively present on the new renditions of “Causing a Commotion” and “Ratbag Joy”.
The New Citizen Kane’s latest project still manages to find time for introspection and self-reflection, taking influences from the artist’s time spent in Brazil and musings on club culture itself. His collaboration with DJ DUTY on “Forget the Trend”, one of Brazil’s leading figures in the underground house music scene, contributes to Kane’s own global appeal and gives the record a refreshing atmosphere of novelty.
Lead single “(TRIP) UNRAVELLING” is a remarkably thoughtful reflection on nightlife, viewing it as both the solution and the problem itself – inviting the listener to a deeper reflection on why we even go to clubs in the first place. It also provides the record’s finest and most intricate beat patterns, slightly inspired by dance-punk’s energy, just because he can.
LIQUID.LATEX.DISCO.DADDY is an album fueled by indulgence and nocturnal pleasure, capturing nighttime’s allure with utmost ease and elegant sophistication.
