“Phantom was inspired by two people we once knew – our former selves,” says front woman/guitarist Lina Sophie.

Greetings everyone! It is finally Friday, the sun is up, the earth spins round. Soon the sunlight will go down and give way to neon lights. Today we have the perfect song for your late night city drives.

Phantom” by our LA friends Songs For Sabotage is a smooth, dreamy song perfectly made for just chilling in the middle of the night. With its crunchy bass, tight drums and wavy synths, “Phantom” creates a shoe-gazy atmosphere filled with melancholic guitars and warm strums, all carried away by an up-beat tempo.

“Phantom was inspired by two people we once knew – our former selves,” says front-woman/guitarist Lina Sophie, “…the lyrics are pulled directly from past traumas that were a result of toxic partnerships we both found ourselves in.”

The single comes with a videoclip shot by LA-based creative Rick Perez aka @goodtimerickstudios with direction and editing by Songs for Sabotage. An immersive experience inside the LA neon lights at night, and a slow ride inside a classic BMW. Neat.

This is SFS’s second single release since their debut album Night of Joy came out last September. Preceded by their single “High Fives” (which we also covered and can be found right here), “Phantom” continues to build the immersive sound the duo has been crafting.

“Phantom describes the moment you realize the relationship doesn’t serve anything, and you’ve essentially trapped yourself. The lightbulb’s gone off and you’re like, ‘okay, I need to GTFO now!’ … from that second on it’s about leaving the past behind, both physically and mentally.” – Richey Rose, musical director/guitarist.
