We’re glad to announce that Brisbane, Australia-based alternative rock band Patient Lounge have released a new single, entitled “Hard Truth.”

Since forming in 2019, Patient Lounge have already supported internationally acclaimed artists such as Haken (UK), Pop Evil (USA) and Wolfmother (AU). They also played at the Dead of Winter Festival, showcased at BIGSOUND 2020, went on multiple interstate tours, and in 2021 they played headline shows as part of Brisbane’s epic Valley Fiesta as well as a sold-out single launch at Tomcat. So far, Patient Lounge have released eight singles, including 2021’s “BEGDA” (our review here) and “Useless” (our review here).

Their latest single, “Hard Truth,” portrays a conversation with a younger version of yourself, telling them not to give up on their dreams—a statement that many listeners will surely relate to. “We have to many friends who have given up on their dreams early and work jobs they fucking hate. This song is telling our inner child not to give up and not to follow in the footsteps of our mates that are miserable 5 days a week,” says Zach Eather (vocals).
A 90’s inspired alt-rock track with prog influences, “Hard Truth” is the first single from Patient Lounge’s upcoming EP, to be released in February of next year; and Patient Lounge have also planned a launch gig in late November (date TBA).
“Hard Truth” is accompanied by a great music video as well, which you can watch here:
The track begins with powerful guitar leads that fade in, soon joined by low, distorted chords and deep bass notes, as heavy-hitting drums keep the rhythms engaging. As the first verse begins, the guitars take on a quieter tone with sustained chords, nicely highlighting the song’s inspired lyrics and dynamic vocal melodies. The opening lead guitar motif then returns, segueing perfectly into the next compelling verse, which in turn takes us into the song’s inspiring chorus. The track later moves into prog metal territory, with rhythmic shredding guitar leads reminiscent of likeminded artists such as TOOL; while at the same time, the song’s grungey distorted chords and alt-rock vocal melodies bring to mind ‘90s rock bands such as Alice in Chains or Pearl Jam.

“Hard Truth” is quite an enjoyable listen throughout, showcasing Patient Lounge’s brilliant songwriting and superb musicianship. I would highly recommend this track to fans of alternative rock, grunge, and prog rock alike.
