S J Denney is a singer-songwriter based in Essex, United Kingdom. His sound consists of a blend of folk and alternative rock. His previous releases such as the EP “The Moods That Follow” have established it as a personal exploration of distinct emotions and feelings, But with new each release, S J Denney challenges himself to expand the scope of his sound. In the case of “High Flying Birds”, he does so by including elaborate ornaments rooted in diverse instruments such as lap steel guitar, strings, and panpipes.

The title “High Flying Birds” comes from two sources, one is the song by Elton John, and the other is the band led by Noel Gallagher by the same name. S J Denney takes these inspirations and makes his own version of the title. We can find it in both lyrics and music. Little by little, from the beginning of the track until the very end, the strings seem to take flight and take the listener with them.

This is due to the harmonic progressions and the melodic phrases that elevate them as if they were rocking with the wind. The listener is then invaded by a sense of weightlessness that strongly influence our sense of perception. The lyrics reinforce this feeling by offering metaphors of freedom: of birds taking flight and going away, into new lands.

Each new release by S J Denney is a spiritual and emotional journey through the depths of conscience. “High Flying Birds” proves to be another step into his promising career. A meticulously crafted single filled with personality that you cannot miss when it releases on January 27!
