Ever wonder what it’d sound like if Shel Silverstein fronted an indie rock band? Dogboy recorded their first 5-track EP at Fraser Studios, produced by Kit Conway (Stello, Del Water Gap). “That’s What We Wanted” is the first single from the EP.

What’s going on ladies and gentlemen, welcome back! It’s your boy, MadZen, and today we will get what we want with this brand-new single. Brought to us by this American band, this song was meant to move and shake our bodies to the inevitable groove of the bass and drums. Let’s get to it!

Dogboy is a surf rock-inspired poetic pop punk band setting out to capitalize on their huge catalog of original songs, but more importantly, put on engaging, high-energy live shows. They take inspiration from the classic Indie bands “of old” like The Strokes and Arctic Monkeys while mixing it up with new age flair akin to Jean Dawson and Briston Maroney. These guys are in it for the long run and have a bunch of original songs coming our way.

“That’s What We Wanted” is a tune inspired by how relationships tend to change. Going from casual encounters, all the way to sometimes unwanted intimacy and vulnerability. “The lyrics came together from a number of experiences and relationships growing up in Jacksonville, FL and when I first moved to NYC.“, Conor from Dogboy explains.

Through these relationships I slowly learned about this concept of emotional gravity. It’s hard being casual when you share experiences that become core memories. It catches you off guard and you can find yourself feeling like you’re on a different planet or reality. Richard’s dreamy guitar and Paul’s sensational bass captures that trippy other worldly type feeling, and as always Aidan’s drums provides the thump, the groove, and the occasional punch in the gut. That is what we wanted.
