What’s going on ladies and gentlemen, welcome back! It’s your boy MadZen, and today we have a very, very special tune coming up in just a couple of weeks. Brought to us by this rising American songwriter, this track has no shortage of spirit, musicality, and drive. Let’s get to it!

This single is about the deep breath you take when you realize you don’t need to hold onto something that was unhealthy anymore. You can let it all go and decide how you want to move forward with your life.

Luke Frees

“Strings” is heavily inspired by the music of artists like Prince, David Bowie, and Jeff Buckley. You will listen to some smooth Rock going on, with lyrics pulled out from the heart, as honestly as possible. Frees was actually going through a writer’s block period, and this single was the one that broke him out of it. It is also the continuation of a series of a-sides and b-sides Luke started putting out monthly in November.

There’s a lot going on in the track, a variety of twists, turns, and more specifically, key changes that keep us on our toes. It is a fantastic experience for any lover of the genre, and an excellent portrayal of what it feels like to stand up for yourself. As Frees puts it: “Strings is about those first few moments of clarity you have when you stand up for yourself in an unhealthy relationship, and how uplifting it can feel to take control of your own life again.”

A cool thing about this single is that it features Frees’ brother, Garrett Frees, on tenor saxophone. Both of them play amazing solos (guitar and sax) at the epic climax of the track, simultaneously, which is by the way, the first time Luke has ever taken a guitar solo himself on one of his solo songs. So go ahead, and
