The end of September saw the release of Matyascorvinus’ newest release “Across the Acheron”. The skilled instrumentalist has shown the light in the darkness and company in solitude with expressive singles like “Her Shadow in the Flame” and “In Solitude“. Now, Matyascorvinus invites listeners to join the soul-changing journey from dark cold to the warmth of light and embrace the life we’ve been given.

At its core, “Across the Acheron” is a successful recovery from serious burnout that affected the artist for a long period of time. The creation of this record was a long process lasting months on end, but in the end, he succeeded in finishing a body of work that would become this EP, a testament to perseverance and finding light.
Aside from that, the EP is running its own core story inspired by the first explorative journey to Antarctica, the voyage of the Belgica. It was an exceptionally challenging expedition (imagine being stuck in ice with your crew for 13 months), but ultimately rewarding.
So, the EP is a finely carved piece that encapsulates hope in the dreary, search for a glimmer of light in eternal darkness, and persistence to carry on despite the hollowest of feelings. It’s a wholly instrumental work where the story is told by the delicate and emotion-instilled guitar playing. The darkness may be silent, but Matyascorvinus fills it up with stories that caress the weary soul and inspire you to find the strength to overcome whatever has struck you down.
The story is split up into 6 individual tracks, paragraphs that concentrate on distinct parts of the journey – the beginning, the feeling of dread in being stuck practically nowhere, the search for hope, and the joyous return to the home ground.
Echoing guitar melodies in the vastness and earthly warmth on the background of empty cold describe the whole EP, from the hesitation followed by bursts of determination in the title track, the slow melancholy of “Austral Winter” and the tired yet finally hope-filled mood of “Sail Away, Stormwing”. Those melodies become your best friend on the journey, endless at the time and fleeting in the end. Just like life tends to be.
