It’s time to introduce a new artist! Hailing from Vermont, US, Nancy Carey Johnson has a heart full of music, and this year the singer-songwriter has finalized a lifelong dream of a project – her debut album. The alt-folk flavored release also has a heart full of melodies, but there’s also lots more. Titled “Chaos & Grace”, Nancy’s first LP is a homage to life in its chaotic, occasionally devastating charm.

Nancy Carey Johnson has always had love for music, as she’s been singing for most of her life and works in music-related fields as a coach and a creator. Songwriting is a relatively new addition to this multitalented artist’s skills, and while she’s teaching songwriting and performance technique classes among other things, she also found the opportunity to fulfill a long-standing dream.
Cue “Chaos & Grace”, the first record from Nancy, produced together with Bill Kaman and people of 6 String Ranch Records. Home to 10 songs with the total runtime of roughly 38 minutes, the LP serves as a solid introduction to Nancy’s heart-driven musical realm. Life as it goes with its relentless twists turned into lyrics of diary-esque, poetic quality makes the release an enjoyable and very much relatable listen.
Take for example “Find Me Someone New”, a strong-willed song facing the fact the beloved man is a cheater. Instead of breaking down over it, she builds up inspiring determination to quit and find someone better – if a man cheats, that’s his choice. Alternatively, “Heaven & Hell” is a song of passion that’s all-consuming and growing too much to handle. It burns so good, but it also burns to the point of pain.
There’s lots more to embrace in the album. From giving the figurative middle finger to the past heartbreaker in “Note From God” to the bold, even borderline brazed hot girl in “Pink Cowboy Boots”, there’s something for almost any mood. Most of all, “Chaos & Grace” lifts you up from the sulking mood, empowers and shows light in even the worst times. All in well-presented lyrics of truth.
