This newly formed band is making a lot of noise with their first release ever. And by a lot of noise, I mean A LOT. Blasting through our speakers with their exploding sound, Ben (guitar/vocals), Liam (bass/vocals) and Dave (drums/vocals) really know how to write fun and exciting music.

During a trip to Berlin, somebody suggested The Würmen, meaning the worms, and that was the first name we all agreed on, so we went with that. The name of the EP came from a doodle of a worm Liam had drawn up and labelling anatomical parts. You can look up which it means if you wish …ha!”

The Wúrmen

The Würmen find inspiration in acts like The Bug Club, The Vaselines, The Rapture, At The Drive In, Deftones, and Blink 182, so you can expect pretty heavy riffs, fast-paced rhythms and raspy vocals. Fuzzy guitars and overdriven bass deliver their characteristic sound, alongside the screaming melodies that sound just as they would on a live performance.

The EP came about really from music jam sessions Liam and Ben had. We’ve been in bands together in the past, but our last effort was short lived, and we disbanded the project late 2012… November perhaps?… Liam set off travelling with a few other friends that we played with, and Ben got married… had kids etc.

“vas deferens” is an EP that goes quick and to the point. Fast-paced hymns that will make you sweat, get up and blast through the door while holding your phone as a microphone, or playing the air guitar as if you were on stage beside them.

When lockdown hit, Ben took to writing again, though that music never really made it to the table for this project – it certainly got the writing and passion going again. Liam and Ben use to meet up a couple of times a month and we used to ya know, get high, drink some beers and create a load of noise.. just for fun.

We eventually wrote the demos of Ceiling Funny and Cognitive Dissonance and was like “ahh, this shit isn’t bad really is it.. we should do something with this” –  not having a drummer and only using logic plugins, Ben reached out to a drummer he knew from an open mic night in Leeds city Centre. The arrival of Dave happened that same day, we met that evening, sank some beers, had a laugh and booked ourselves into the studio for a fortnights time. Haha, pretty funny really to say we hadn’t even jammed then.

Middle tracks “Ceiling Funny” and “Cognitive Dissonance” were their first double single release, featured on BBC Introducing (BBC6 and Leeds – West Yorkshire) alongside other radio stations in the UK and the USA. The other two, “Holistic Medicine” which opens the EP, and “Remeditation Policy” which closes it, are completely new.

Even though the attitude of the tracks is very similar, each one has a mind of their own, quirky, chaotic, exotic, and familiar. This is definitely an EP that deserves praise and all your ears, so listen now!
