Kingseeker Compiles phenomenal new album “Passing Moments Caught Forever”

Norwegian band Kingseeker is a force to reckon with. To describe the band as dynamic would be a massive understatement. They’ve released four singles from their brand-new sophomore album “Passing Moments Caught Forever,” and it has their listeners, myself very much included, buzzing big time about this release.

Kingseeker’s brand new album is one of those things where I have a million things to say about it but struggle to find the words because I’m literally stunned by the music. Let’s start with what I hear in the sound. I hear post-hardcore, metal, hints of Metalcore, screamo, and just plain kick a** heavy rock and roll.

And without even naming names of the variety of other bands it kind of reminds me of, I feel confident in saying this band is a solid recommendation for fans of any of those genres, no additional input needed! They check all the boxes. Heavy riffing, pulsating breakdowns, infectious melodics, and visceral screams. I’m here for it, and I’m also here to put a “hot take” on it: one of the best albums you’ll hear this year. Calling it early!

The first single released from the album was “…and I Explode” last September. According to Jan, the singer, it was meant to be a stand alone single based on how different the band felt it was in comparison to their previous work on 2022’s “Daily Reminders” album. As it turns out, the single was but a foreshadowing of great things to come. Per Jan, the track was heavily inspired by the legendary band Poison the Well. The band very much hits the mark on that, I also hear echos of early era The Used as well. It’s a really cool track.

The band followed up in October with “Young and Naive,” and it’s tough for me to not declare this one my favorite on the album, but it’s certainly in the conversation. It’s a manic song that reminds me of bands like Haste the Day. “Cold Blooded/Ice Blooded” was the next song released in November and I get a “mathcore” vibe from that tune. My favorite part of the movement is the “I’m broken, I beat myself up” breakdown.

With the release of “New Horizons” in December, the anticipation for the new album has grown to new heights. “New Horizons” starts out with tight, grooving, double bass kicks that shift into down tuned, chugging, heavy verses only to emerge into this really cool emo/post-hardcore dissonance. It’s truly an amalgamation of all the things in their soundscape. We’re currently spinning this song on AMS Radio during LT1KF Indie Hour time slots, so tune in to catch this song along with many other artists featured here on the blog.

It’s been two years the band released their debut album, and what this brand-new album has become was a process of evolution, with lots of material accumulated and curated over that time. According to Jan, the band started with a foundation of about 300 riffs written. They methodically went through each idea, scrapping anything they had any kind of “doubts” about. I’ve had the privilege of hearing the album early thanks to this publication (hey lookie there, fringe blogger benefits!) And I assure you the rest of the album does not disappoint. You’re going to get five brand new previously unreleased songs in addition to the previously released singles:

  • “Sunk Cost Fallacy”
  • “Bad Vibes are Cancelled”
  • “A Perfect Picture”
  • “Goodbye Forever”
  • “Hypnopompia”

What’s the old saying? “All killer, no filler” here. Like I mentioned before it’s tall order trying to pick out a favorite. Of the new ones, if I were to cherry pick some notable call outs, “Sunk Cost Fallacy” and “Goodbye Forever” are remarkable stand outs in my opinion. There is an underlying theme across the whole album that speaks to nostalgia, dreams, false memories, and the awakening that comes along with those things.

Jan tells us that the “waking up” part of the lyrical concepts are both figurative (as in perceptual awakening) as well as awakening in the literal sense. Perhaps those surreal moments of realization after a deep sleep and really weird dream? I speculate. At least that’s my interpretation of the feeling I get when listening. Hence, the title of the album “Passing Moments, Caught Forever.”

Jan also mentions having a background as a photographer in which he carried a motto similar to the album title. As opposed to visually, the band commemorates these moments audibly. Neat concept. I highly recommend this album for fans of all the aforementioned bands, as well as fans of Norma Jean, Oh Sleeper, and even those who might be into bands like The Callous Daoboys.

  1. Heavy riffing, pulsating breakdowns, infectious melodics, and visceral screams indeed! The album’s face-melting and intense from start to finish! “Bad Vibes Are Cancelled” is one of my personal favorites.

    • Hi, my friend, I hope you’re having a great weekend. That’s a great track… and album!!! Thanks for checking out and sharing your thoughts. I appreciate you!!!

    • Absolutely! “Bad Vibes” definitely a great one too. This is a band that really takes me back to my “hey day,” those “double ott” 2000s. The push and pull between shoegazy somber melodics to heavy screaming is something so embedded in my musical psyche. Among so many others, for different reasons, but still. Thanks for checking it out Jeff!
