The Norwegian artist and musician Robert Vendetta strikes back with the release of his fourth album, Vendetta Del Disco, an album that pushes his signature sound further than ever before in an absolute joyride. The album was preceded by successful singles “Fool“, “Vacation” and “Here and Now” that already gave us a taste in what to expect, and still the full album manages to surpass the expectations.

Across the album’s nine tracks we are presented with the story of someone who gets lost in his own job; always working extra hard to please his boss at the cost of his own personal life and sanity. Thankfully, things change when he goes on vacation to Vendetta Del Disco and learns to dance and the value the small, little things in life that are more important than work. It’s a very lovely tale, and if it sounds a little bit like a cliché is because it is.
Vendetta Del Disco is Robert Vendetta’s most sonically expansive sounding album yet, betting hard on classic rock and roll sounds from the 60s while still bringing in some new and interesting elements. Heavily inspired by late 70s David Bowie and also the powerful vocal melodies of Ariana Grande, Robert Vendetta creates on this new album something that feels and sounds like a personal journey, rooted in fun and character development.
The album starts out with the scene being set in a slow but steady descent: “Main Man” and “Work” give us the taste of what this man’s life was like before, with beautifully produced power pop tracks that shy away from nothing. With playful pianos and arpeggiated rhythms, upbeat drums and impeccable melodic senses that instantly grab you by the hand and take you somewhere else like a best friend would.
You can feel on the instrumentals exactly how chaotic this person’s life was; there is so much happening at the same time that it feels a bit overwhelming – but by the time we reach “Shrink” and, most importantly “Fool”, things start to calm down.
The emotional centerpieces of the album, “Shrink” and “Fool” slow down a little bit by delving into the root of his problems and finding guidance in a therapy session. After following his own feelings and needs for once, the main man goes on a vacation that gives him much needed perspective. “Vacation” and “Vendetta Del Disco” pick up the pace and tempo, and it’s interesting to realise how less messy and chaotic they are.
The production does an incredible job in always reflecting the protagonist’s state of mind, and this makes for an amazing dynamic in sounds. In a classic 70s rock fashion, the instrumentals are filled to the brim with pianos, guitars and vocal harmonies that set the tone for what’s the come beautifully.
From “Here and Now” forward, we reach the climax in the storytelling as our character realises his former life was killing him and decides to actively change his ways. A powerful ballad, “Here and Now” is a beautiful song that feels like a transformative moment, and from this point on we could never go back.
This is the conclusion reached by the final tracks, “Breathe” and “Set the World On Fire” that close the album perfectly with a lovely and positive message and feature some of the most simple and straightforward production heard on the album. “Breathe” is a gorgeous track, relying on that Bowie influence and featuring amazing percussion in a rockabilly-inspired reggaeton of sorts that sounds really good.
Robert Vendetta managed to tell a full story, from start to finish on this album. Along the way we see and feel real change and character development for the main man, and always reflects the emotions perfectly on the production choices. The Norwegian mariachi is on his prime here, constantly trying out new things and adding them to his music effortlessly and cohesively.
The man’s got serious writing skills and a knack for storytelling that can’t be denied – there are TV shows and movies that aren’t this well written, to be honest. Vendetta Del Disco is a masterpiece in storytelling and production, managing to sound sonically cohesive and musically diverse at the same time as it goes from Prog Rock to African influences with the blink of an eye.
On Vendetta Del Disco, Robert Vendetta guides us through a journey of self-reflection, and self-knowledge, and shines the most beautiful of lights on what really matters in life. The friends, lovers, hobbies and experiences we are always too busy to pursue are what enrich us and make life worth living. So, we should make time for those experiences, because we won’t ever get this time back.
