No face, just music. And now the third album. This June sees the release of Frank Joshua’s new album, a soulful body of work with lots of emotion stirring inside. This is “Turn To Your Soul”, an LP of dreamy atmospheric electronica narrated by Frank’s evocative vocals and driven by deep gazes into one’s most veiled parts of soul.

Named after one of its tracks, the album itself keeps true to the soul-gazing nature of its single and expands on it with more in-depth stories on love and its complexities, solitude and being tricked and trapped by one’s own emotions. All those and more are approached with carefully crafted lyrics presented in silky vocals and surrounded by seemingly endless atmosphere. It’s a strange yet familiar place to be in, alone and treading the landscapes formed by your inner self.
Frank Joshua has embraced a slightly more pop sound on this record and makes good use of the style’s inherently captivating nature. You meet more straight-forward percussion with catchy hooks such as “Bluebell Wood” and wind-in-the-hair driving sound in “Patent Leather Car“. There’s also space for slow melancholy, such as what “Winter Cowboy” sings about, as well as tender melodies wrapped in minimalism like “Kiss“. Frank goes for a variety of sounds and makes everything work perfectly.
With pure poetry as lyrics, fleeting moments captured in crystal clear resin and atmosphere resembling the unsettling yet comfortable solitude, the new record is a carefully translated collection of hard to describe emotions. While you’re in the comfort of your bedroom at 4AM, Frank Joshua will let you feel like you’re alone in the middle of the field surrounded by the thickest fog you’ve ever seen. And yet you’re not afraid.
