Rival Karma – “Powerduism”

Rival Karma’s brand-new EP is a statement of what this duo is capable of accomplishing, even with the mayor setbacks of a pandemic. A masterfully written, recorded, and produced set of tracks that perfectly fit in any Stoner Rock, Blues Rock, and Grunge playlist.

¡OUT NOW!

What’s going on my friends. It your favorite stoner, MadZen, and today we have a pretty amazing upcoming EP, perfect for all your QOTSA fans out there. Lots of cool, heavy riffs, anthemic clean vocals, and stomping drum beats await inside “Powerduism“. Oh man, let’s get it!

Ok guys, so, if you don’t remember Rival Karma they were actually featured here in our blog a while ago with their singles Honey and Jesus Is From Chico, both of them included in this EP. They are an Alt Rock / Stoner Rock duo from London, UK, who simply love touring. In fact, they spent the majority of 2019 on the road, hitting places like Germany, France, West Coast US, Italy, Spain, and open for the buzz rock band Reignwolf in October 2019.

Naturally, the band was stopped due to Covid for almost two years, giving them time to take a step back and reassess, explore new territories, and to take a deeper dive into their musical relationship with each other. Once again, Rival Karma recruited Sam Miller (Razorlight, Paloma Faith), to produce and record their new musical chapter.

We begin the EP with “Minds Of The Many“, followed by their previously released single “Jesus Is From Chico“. Both of this tracks succeed to hypnotize the listener with their stoner riffs and their melodious vocals. Witty lyrics, sudden melodic stops, and big dynamic drums are elements that define the British duo. Of course, and infectious groove and outstanding guitar tones also share the spotlight.

There’s no boring bit in any of these tracks, as I’m sure Rival Karma very much intended so. Clever twists and harmonic changes keep the EP entertaining, making it an easy and exciting listen through and through. The heat is real!

We continue with “Photograph” a delightful track with swinging drums and nostalgic lyrics about that beautiful yet melancholic feeling you get when looking at an old photograph that is dear to your heart. The blend between hypnotic, grooving, and sentimentality probably make this track the best out of four.

They have invited anyone who likes to send them a picture that is important to them, to include in the visuals surrounding the release !

Lastly, we close the EP with previously released single, “Honey“. The most Rock and Roll track with little hints of Indie Rock here and there. A track that finishes to glue everything together with its big fat bass lines and tribal, ecstatic rhythms. Such a blast!
