Wotts a desperate plea in “Something”

Retro and new come together to create an uplifting Indie Pop track with a melancholic twist. “Something” by Wotts might come up as a danceable, “happy” song, but its lyrics are actually a desperate plea to someone you love.

¡OUT NOW “SOMETHING” BY WOTTS!

What’s going on boys and girls! It’s your 90’s kid, MadZen, and today we will get ready for an upcoming track filled with retro vibes and interesting riffs! Brought to us by this amazing Canadian duo, this single expose both warm instrumentation and urgent vocals. Let’s get to it!

Wotts is an Ottawa, Canada-based indie pop duo made up of vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Jayem and bassist/guitarist Ricky 100. They initially started by being a 5-piece that played hip-hop, but last year three of their members decided to just quit. Boo! Jay and Ricky found themselves in a new situation where they had to find a way to make and produce music all on their own. So, they decided to take a completely different path, and “Something” was born!

A song about an old scar that opened up while producing the track. Jay and Ricky draw inspiration from bands like Brothertiger, Tame Impala and Djo. Even if these bands don’t sound the same on the surface, what Wotts love is the ability they have to balance and blend the old with the new. And that’s exactly what they did!

A very carefully produced drum beat with a super exciting Hi-Hat work, along with a big fat bass, set the foundation of “Something”. 80’s inspired synths, melodies, and atmospheres make this track a trip to the past in our modern world. Vocals are reverby and just a little bit upfront, which is what Wotts intended, as the theme of the song is to put yourself out there no matter what the result might be.

“Something” has for sure all the potential to become a timeless classic. Its playful beat and Pop sensibilities make it a track easily accessible to anyone, and we hope you find this appealing. So go ahead and
