This instrumental single delivers a Southern atmosphere with a cosmic vibe that invites us to reflect, celebrate, and mourn. “Patchen Avenue” is a tune from a man with many years of experience on his back, and with the help of his new Danocaster he’s ready to throw some awesome guitar licks.
OUT NOW
What’s going on, everybody! It’s your mystical rider, MadZen, and today we have a great new track from an outstanding New York-based musician. An instrumental ballad with guitar as the lead protagonist, a swinging beat, and a nice mix of country with soft electronica elements. Let’s get it!
Alec Berlin has played everywhere, alongside true legends like Elton John, Kenny Wheeler, and Rufus Wainwright; he’s also performed in dozens of Broadway shows including Rent, Wicked, The Lion King, and Bright Star (written by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell); and has appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and Good Morning America. I mean, that’s a tight resume.
Now, Berlin has made an album that combines his love of concise pop-rock songwriting with his expertise as a guitarist to make a record that celebrates his love of both. The “Space Punk and Other Junk” Ep is his fourth release up to date which includes songs that had previously been released; except for today’s single: “Patchen Avenue”.
“Patchen Avenue” is a track created by Berlin on his new Danocaster guitar. A track that according to Berlin: just sort of fell out of the instrument one day. With amazing licks, and a cool atmospheric vibe, Berlin fends off the void created by lack of lyrics, by masterfully adding interesting twists and turns to the track.
“This song is a little quieter and more reflective than the other songs that I’ve recorded lately, and I really like the contrast. It’s nice to be able to take a breath and relax a bit.” – Alec Berlin
Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Alec moved to New York City twenty-five years ago after completing a Masters Degree in Jazz Performance at Boston’s New England Conservatory, and you can really tell his ability (and years of playing live) in the song. What graceful melodies and tightly knitted riffs can be found in this musical showmanship.
Berlin has released music all the way since 2000, and with this EP he consolidates himself as a true guitar hero. So waste no time, and hit that play button. MadZen out.
