“Midday Blue” does an amazing job of bringing something new to the genre, as it does not feature the traditional distorted guitars you’d expect in a dream pop song. Instead, she focuses on ambient music, moods, and feelings that are brought to life by soft keys and clear synths. Her vocals are clear as day as she sings about dream-like skies and natural beauty. It’s astonishing in its apparent simplicity; the track features a complex arrangement of sounds, such as acoustic guitars and pianos that flow effortlessly.
A very interesting departure and brand new step into their own universe, “Midday Blue” is an excellent song that soothes you. There is an eeriness to its atmosphere, but it never once sounds menacing or goes into the dark side of things. Here, you get nothing but blue skies and peace.
Genevieve Sovereign expands her sonic horizons with this one, sounding like nothing she’s ever done up to this point before. “Midday Blue” sounds fresh like an alternative take on an ages-old lullaby, featuring the same intimacy of a mother singing to her sleeping child. The juxtaposition between the middle-of-the-day suns and lyrics with the lullaby characteristics of the song make it an even more interesting listen and, needless to say, it gives you chills at the same time that it comforts your soul. On her latest track, Genevieve explores a new side of her sound palette and once again does an incredible job with it.
