In the coming week, UK band The Trudy is ready to reveal their newest piece of work, and this time it’s a mini album. Titled “Outside Time”, this release is home to a variety of musical atmospheres from the chilled to the wild. Thus, while this splendid release may be small on the outside, it’s huge on the inside!

The title “Outside Time” refers to the little album’s timeless insides. Consisting of 7 tracks with a total runtime of 21 minutes, releases of this length would be referred to as an EP. Not this one though. “Outside Time” is a mini album in perfect length to fit on one side of a 12” record, and it is meant to be listened to in full, just like you’d listen to a vinyl. Beginning from “Dawn” and finishing off on a tender note when “Arrival” starts playing, the experience embarks on a journey through lands and seas, as well as through genres, of course.
Once the journey begins, we’re greeted by delicate guitar playing and vocals that are as serene as fresh forest air. Poetic tenderness is joined by the flowing current of post-rock, and the moody driving nature of “Where The Roses Grow” shows the gentle yet untamed place, thorns hidden underneath. Already breathtaking, that’s still just the first full stop in this record.
Two singles are included in the lineup of the album – the exhilarating, aching, and emotional “Dear Sancho” followed by the hope-inspiring sea shanty of resilience titled “Every Story Ever Told“. Both are completely different from each other, yet they fit perfectly into the journey as the band’s literary masterpiece and a sea shanty folk tune respectively. Both look for the dreams within their stories’ realms and bring forth a stunning atmosphere along with though-inspiring messages.
The release carries on into the uplifting section of post-rock spaghetti western straight from London – “Giants Theme”. It soars and screams in exhilaration as its instrumental core paints a vision of standing on top of a mountain, reaching far and wide. The high energy continues in the punk-pop vein with “Pop Pop” to spill some honey-sweet rowdiness around on the topic of love as unstable as a little red balloon in the middle of thorns.
The Trudy has succeeded in putting a whole lot of goodness into just 21 minutes. “Outside Time” is an excellent release and anyone looking for some great indie rock with a vast variety of influences should take notice – it’s absolutely worth it!
