Hailing from his Maui-based studio, Gianfranco Pescetti has just released a brand-new body of work, namely an LP “Daystar Nocturnal”. In this genre-fluid release, Gianfranco explores the kaleidoscopic variety of emotions embedded within us all and translates that world into music. Energizing and constantly evolving, just like the inspiration, “Daystar Nocturnal” is an outstanding representation of the inherent vibrancy that powers us all.

“Music, for me, is something fluid,” the artist explains what drives his creativity in producing music. Fluid is, in fact, a fitting description for “Daystar Nocturnal”, a release that not only blends genres, but also the individual tracks to create one cohesive journey. Just like the world of emotions includes light and joyful side-by-side with the darker, more serious tones, the album also incorporates a variety of moods as it travels through the intimate inner realms. And while at it, “Daystar Nocturnal” also explores the edges of conventional genres, borrowing what fits and carving a new path for itself.

The journey consists of 10 individual chapters with the total runtime of almost 36 minutes. In this timeframe we are picked up and carried into the realm by the first track’s awestruck melodies and driving beat, which slowly give way to other, contrasting moods throughout the duration of the ride. those changes happen even within the single track, sometimes so smoothly that you just suddenly find yourself surrounded by a much different landscape than before.
The kaleidoscopic, constantly shifting atmosphere represents new patterns and melodies with the flow of a wide river. What begins as wide-eyed and inspired may find itself rattled and feeling unnerved, such as “Clownspunk”, or explore the level-headed “Obsidian” that’s infused with clarity of thought with a little hint of doubt. The energy changes along with the emotions inspected by the tracks, and so some parts of the journey, such as “Sundog”, adopt a downtempo facet, while others like “Be My Ghost” run through the magnificent landscapes on top of a steady beat.

It would be a considerably complex task to try and explain what the emotions feel like, as they are formless entities that have the capability to affect every sense, we use to experience the world. Gianfranco Pescetti has done a convincing job at creating a musical representation of the home those emotions live in. The constant change driven by a million different things, not least of them being the rhythm of day and night, is truthfully and creatively explored in the LP. And to add a cherry to the cake, “Daystar Nocturnal” doesn’t specify, what emotion is linked to which sound – that is left for the listener to interpret and explore.
