American indie pop star Edie Yvonne is back with a brand-new track, following her amazing cover of Blind Melon’s “No Rain” in late last year. “Delusion” is Edie’s 11th single so far, and this one comes to wrap up her teen pop trilogy – also composed of “Girl Code” and “Queen Bee“. Her new single shows us Edie at her very best: energetic production filled with incredibly well-placed guitars and strong vocals, as well as the same cinematic aspect that is always present in her songs.

The singer and songwriter once again dive in headfirst with a song that perfectly captures her teen energy with great dynamics and a simple structure. Still dealing with the trials and tribulations of navigating life as a teenage girl, the same thematic explored by her on the other two songs of the trilogy, Edie Yvonne is at a place in which she’s already learned a lot – but knows there’s still so much more she doesn’t yet know.
Backed by a strong bassline and catchy guitars that can remind you of Electra Heart at times, Edie Yvonne sings about feelings of doubt and confusion in a candid and honest way. In the midst of witchcraft imagery such as making potions and casting spells, our girl sounds like someone who is trying to find her way, and this goes way beyond the tumultuous teenage years.
There is a maturity on “Delusion” that feels absolutely cohesive with Edie’s discography so far. Edie’s vocals sound like they hit deeper than ever before, and the same can be said about her lyrics and instrumentals. “Delusion” is self-aware in a way that Edie’s writing hasn’t been up until now and it just comes to show how good she is, and how much better she is getting at this. She’s already completely mastered the single format, coming up with full stories that are meant to be told within those short minutes and then sit with you for hours.
It is an absolute joy being able to witness her growth as an artist firsthand, and “Delusion” solidifies that all at once. From the production choices to vocal performance, everything about this song feels like a step forward for Edie. She is the definite proof that we should be listening to teenage girls more and taking them more seriously – they know exactly what they’re doing, much more than we grown ups give them credit for.
