Dream of a Man in a Top Hat’s releases are always interesting in this one isn’t the exception. Boston’s veterans make a gritty comeback with a single that is both haunting and evocative. With their eccentric selection of sounds, this single packs a psychedelic punch loaded with a high dose of quirkiness.
“The Laughing Kind” comes at us with a slow pace, blasting our speakers right from the start with a huge wall of sound of synths and guitars. The grooving verse comes fast, with some percussion-like bells, quickly transitioning into the wide, guitar riff filled pre-chorus, immediately followed by the chorus.

Contrasting with their previous release, Dimmer Switch, this title presents almost an uplifting and joyful vibe, a weird sensation of lightness, and a carefree attitude. As quirky as the melodies are, you might be able to find some resemblance to 80’s The Cure, or The Psychedelic Furs.
Overall, the track is very playful and filled with excellent musical arrangements, as even orchestral strings are present in the mix, leveling the harsh melodies of the overdriven guitars. So, listen now!
